70s Spots: Right Guard, ‘Hi, Guy!’

Yes, there’s an open space in between the two apartment bathroom mirrors. Don’t question it. Go with it.
Right Guard, 1970s

Here’s a pair of spots for a Right Guard deodorant campaign that ran throughout the 1970s. Famed on-camera and voice over actor Chuck McCann (Far Out Space Nuts) and his annoying but lovable “Hi, Guy,” uh, guy.

The first spot is from early on in the decade (around 1971) and the second is later (around 1978). Enjoy, Guy!

  1. Chuck McCann was on a recent PBS documentary on kid’s shows of the 50s, 60s and 70s. He was the host of a long-running local children’s program. He was quite the adlib comedian. He could also do some great serious roles, like a slimeball stand-up comic on a great episode of “The Rockford Files.”

    • Sounds familiar but I couldn’t find anything on YouTube. I did find McCann imitating Hardy for Standard Oil commercials in the 60s. Might be that.
