This animated commercial, captured in November of 1975, features the “Wally Bird” mascot well-known for his catchphrase “Western Airlines. The oooonly way to fly!”

  1. What a blast from the past. I saw a lot of these commercials in Phoenix in the ’70s as our airport, Sky Harbor, was a major hub for Western Airlines, along with Hughes Airwest with their bright yellow-painted planes. It sounds like Jim Backus doing the voice of the bird.

  2. Yeah. Love these. The voice does sound Backus-like. According to Wikipedia the voice actor is Shepard Menken.
