“I hate Qantas.”

Here’s another Daily 70s Spot featuring a famous airline mascot. This time around we have the Qantas Airlines koala “bear” touting the virtues of the new 747B planes. The commercial aired in January, 1972.

Why does the lovable koala hate Qantas? Because the Australian airline’s services are so wonderful that too many tourists are heading Down Under and disturbing his peace and quiet. Well, that was the gist of the long-running series of commercials anyway.

  1. Thanks for posting this great commercial that I remember so fondly. Qantas is actually an acronym for “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service.” I have flown a Qantas 747 to Australia and it is, hands-down, the best airline I have ever flown. Also, like Dustin Hoffman says in “Rain Man”, it is indeed the safest airline in the world.

  2. Glad you enjoyed. I always liked the little guy. Didn’t know (or remember) about the acronym. Their strange name now makes sense.
