Music For Monday: The Rolling Stones, ‘Tumbling Dice’ (Live ’72)

‘You got to roll me…’ (Mick Jagger sings ‘Tumbling Dice,’ 1972)

The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” was the lead-off single for the L.P., Exile on Main St., hitting radio and record shops in April of 1972. The bluesy tune is somehow both lazy and rollicking at the same time and hit the top ten in the US (#7) and the UK (#5).

The Rolling Stones performance below finds the band rehearsing on May 21, 1972 at the Rialto Theatre in Montreux, Switzerland (according to YouTube poster, WoogieTheCat). An interesting note: although Mick Taylor can be seen firing off tasty lead guitar licks, he actually played bass on the recorded version. Roll it!
