Forty years ago today, Jim Croce was at the top of the charts with his self-penned tune, “Time in a Bottle.” The song originally appeared on Croce’s 1972 L.P., You Don’t Mess Around with Jim. It was re-issued as a single following a well-received appearance in a 1973 ABC Movie of the Week (She Lives) and Croce’s untimely death in September of ’73.

The week of December 29, 1973 and the first week of the following year, on January 05, 1974, “Time in a Bottle” claimed the top of the Billboard US “Hot 100.” Head back 40 years with the home movies-style video below.
