The Exorcist levitated into theaters in late December of 1973 and was #1 at the box office for six weeks; from Jan 06 – February 10, 1974 (40-yrs-ago this week).

This horror classic, based on a 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, was directed by William Friedkin and stars Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Lee J. Cobb, Jason Miller and Max von Sydow.
