Herb Alpert released the smooth-grooving instrumental, “Rise” in the summer of 1979. On July 28 it debuted on the Billboard US “Hot 100.” After a slow climb and some promotion on TV’s General Hospital, “Rise” rose to #1 – spending two weeks at the top in October ’79.

Here we find Alpert miming to the song (written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz) on a TV show with what appears to be some sort of disco harem. Turn the lights low and get groovy. If you’re not familiar with the song by name, you’ll have an “Oh, yeah” moment once the trumpet kicks in.
