70s Spots: Sony ‘Secret Agent’ Electronics (1977)

Oh, James!

“It’s a Sony.”

A pair of commercials for Sony today. First up, we have a fun spot from October 1977 featuring a Roger Moore, 007-type and Sony micro-recorders and video cameras.

Second, a November ’77 spot for Sony TVs featuring the TelePrompTer cable TV company. TelePrompTer were the biggest provider of cable in the US in the early 70s (according to Wikipedia).

  1. In the “secret agent” commercial, the actor playing the “OO7” type looks and sounds exactly like Australian actor George Lazenby, who played Bond in one film (“On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”). Even though he looks and sounds exactly like Lazenby, I don’t think it’s him.

    • It does look like Lazenby. But, I think you’re right – it probably isn’t him.

  2. In the other commercial, the doorman looks like actor Herb Voland who played General Clayton on the M*A*S*H television series.

    • Thanks for the info. It could be, but the source video is pretty faded so it’s hard to tell.
