Our sister site (aka my other seventies website), Cherry Stereo is celebrating its first birthday today!
If you have an interest in the well-known and lesser-known recording artists of the 1970s you should find something to enjoy just about every day. Musicians featured in the past week include; Black Sabbath, Elvis Presley, Kraftwerk, The Stylistics, and Nazareth. I’d love to have you join in the fun. Head on over and bookmark that Stereo!
Happy Valentine’s Day! To celebrate the holiday we’ll be floating back 42 years and basking in a few clips from Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown.
Cupid Snoopy on the job.
Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown first aired on January 28, 1975. The 30-minute special was directed by Phil Roman and produced by the usual Peanuts pairing of Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez. Voice actors include; Duncan Watson (Charlie Brown), Melanie Kohn (Lucy) and Stephen Shea in his last appearance as Linus.

Roll the clips and memories!

Let’s assume that’s not really Nicklaus’ card number…
“Man does not live by golf alone.”
Two commercials from late 1977 to enjoy today. First, we have one from October ’77 for American Express. Golf champ Jack Nicklaus stars and the theme is tennis. A clever twist!
After that, a spot for the Atari Video Computer System (these days, better known as a “console”). Chuck McCann (Far Out Space Nuts) stars in this one from December of ’77.
A date with Ronald requires an hour-long bath and ample lashings of Johnson’s Baby Powder.
“Keeps anybody’s baby smooth and fresh.”
Two commercials today from the spring of 1970. First, freshen up with Johnson’s Baby Powder from May of ’70. Both of these actors sound overdubbed which sort of deflates the natural vibe they were going for.
Second, the world’s most masculine commercial for Command men’s hair spray. You’ll find deep voices, race car drivers, airline pilots, and construction workers looking for a spray that “holds.” They probably could have dialed things back nine or ten notches. The spot aired in April 1970. Enjoy!
Still worth approximately the same price…at your local corner vintage shop.
“Wembley ties it all together.”
Some super seventies fashion today featuring a number of recognizable faces. First, take in actors John Erwin and Ron Masak in a mildly funny Wembley ties commercial from December of 1973.
After that, watch famed Miami Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese show off some Sear’s Golden Comfort Shirts in a spot from November of 1974.
