A very good lazy Sunday to everyone. We close 1976 Week with a pair of spots focused on cleanliness. First, one for Safeguard soap. Second, a commercial for Sure spray-on antiperspirant. Both spots aired in December of 1976.
Who remembers the last time they “sprayed on” antiperspirant? My memory is certainly fuzzy on the subject.
“Everything you always wanted in a beer…and less.”
Two December 1976 spots now for Lite Beer from Miller. In the first, we find basketball great, Wilt Chamberlain and another very tall human being. My first thought was, “Oh, it’s Richard Kiel,” but I’m not so sure. Was there another very tall actor with a deep voice in the 70s? The little voice in the back of my head says “yes.”
*Update: “John” on YouTube spotted actor, Ted Cassidy as playing the barman. I am mildly ashamed. I should have known.
In the second commercial, Kentucky Derby-winning horse trainer, LeRoy Jolley brings the whinnies and chuckles.
Streisand in full effect. (‘A Star Is Born,’ 1976)
“Sometimes, everything isn’t enough.”
This spot for the film, A Star Is Born runs one minute long. I could swear it takes at least twice that time. It’s not exactly action-packed. The promo aired in late December of 1976.
‘A Star Is Born’ TV Spot (Streisand, Kristofferson), 1976
Watch one channel, while recording another. It’s a miracle! (Sony Betamax commercial, 1976)
“With Sony’s Betamax you won’t miss a thing.”
I like the fellow in this spot for Sony’s Betamax recorder. He’s got quality comedic body language going. The commercial aired in December of 1976. Press play and enjoy.
