Clint Eastwood, doing his own stunts in ‘The Eiger Sanction, ‘ 1975.
“The man, Clint Eastwood. The mountain, the Eiger…”
I hope the holidays have been kind and the end of the year is treating you well. Today, we’re heading back to 1975 for a pair of TV trailers for movies hitting the big screen.
First, we have Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy in The Eiger Sanction. I saw this one in the theater at age eight and haven’t seen it since. If memory serves, I enjoyed it but thought it was kind of strange and a bit too long. Time for another viewing.
After that, we have a TV trailer for Breakout starring Robert Duvall and Charles Bronson. Haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this one…yet. Both spots aired in May of 1975.
Richard (Burt on ‘Soap’) Mulligan moments before turning invisible. (Gillette commercial, 1972)
“It’s one blade better.”
A very good Sunday to you. Thanks for joining in for a couple of vintage moments with Gillette.
First, we have actor Richard Mulligan (probably best-known for TV’s ‘Soap’) for the Gillette Trac II razor. After that, you’ll find many “Roughnecks” mugging it up for Gillette Foamy shave cream. Both spots aired in October of 1972.
Love & a Quarter Pounder. (McDonald’s Commercial, 1977)
“Oh, you Quarter Pounder People…”
Hi folks! Well, the ol’ work schedule has been keeping me mighty busy of late and you’ve likely noticed a lack of updates in the past two weeks. Never fear, things are normalizing somewhat and we now return you to your regularly scheduled commercials – already in progress.
Two fun spots for McDonald’s can be found below. Firstly, a spot from July of 1974 with a “money shortage” theme. Following that, one from December 1977 featuring a collection of “Quarter Pounder People.”
Frank Borman and ‘Red Jacket Guy’ (Eastern Airlines commercial, 1979)
“We have to earn our wings every day.”
Sunday armchair travelers! Here we have two spots for Eastern Airlines featuring company president and former astronaut, Frank Borman.
The first spot, with a “people” theme, aired in the summer of 1978. The second clip, focused on “crowded airports, ran in January of 1979. Eastern ceased operations in 1991.
Joe Namath, Salesman of the Seventies. (Hamilton Beach commercial, 1977)
“It cooks and fries anything at all.”
Greetings, one and all! It’s high time I updated the ‘Disco and rolled out some vintage commercials.
Today, we’re visiting with Joe Namath and “Mother Tums.” Our first spot finds Broadway Joe offering up some cooking options with the Fry-All Deep Fryer from Hamilton Beach. After that, an appearance by “Mother Tums,” a product mascot who didn’t quite catch on. Both spots aired in December of 1977.
