Stretching the limits of imagination (JCPenney, 1972)
“They’re the best thing on two legs.”
Time to hitch up our stockings and get to the Daily 70s Spot. On display today we have another JCPenney commercial. This one is for “Flexxtra Pantihose.” Spot aired in November of 1972.
‘You got to roll me…’ (Mick Jagger sings ‘Tumbling Dice,’ 1972)
The Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice” was the lead-off single for the L.P., Exile on Main St., hitting radio and record shops in April of 1972. The bluesy tune is somehow both lazy and rollicking at the same time and hit the top ten in the US (#7) and the UK (#5).
The Rolling Stones performance below finds the band rehearsing on May 21, 1972 at the Rialto Theatre in Montreux, Switzerland (according to YouTube poster, WoogieTheCat). An interesting note: although Mick Taylor can be seen firing off tasty lead guitar licks, he actually played bass on the recorded version. Roll it!

“The closer you shave – the more you need the medicated comfort of Noxzema shave cream.”
Time to lather up our Daily 70s Spot and spread it on our face. In today’s commercial we find a friendly Scandinavian(?) model and a can of Noxzema shaving cream. Spot aired in October of 1979.
*Note: I recognize the spokesmodel’s face in this spot but can’t place her name. She would be a replacement for Farrah Fawcett who starred in earlier 1970s Noxzema commercials. If you have the knowledge, please let me know.
Nothing says “Fresh” and “New” like an old miner (Olympic Overcoat commercial, 1978)
“Flows like cream. Wears like iron.”
Time to pop open our Daily 70s Spot and slap it on the walls. Here’s a commercial for Olympic Overcoat paint featuring an old timey Western theme. Spot aired in July of 1978.
OK, ‘Disco dancers, let’s hop in our vehicle and drive it across the beach. Here’s one for the upcoming 1980 Jeep CJ from American Motors Corporation. “CJ” stands for “Civilian Jeep.” Spot aired in October of 1979.
