Peter Hyams‘ Capricorn One hit theaters in the early summer of 1978. The action-conspiracy flick revolves around a hoax Mars landing and stars James Brolin, Sam Waterston and O.J. Simpson as a trio of threatened astronauts and Elliot Gould as an investigative reporter who smells something fishy.

I caught Capricorn One in the theater when it first ran and I remember greatly enjoying it. I wanted to sit there and watch the thrilling spectacle a second time. However, I was 11-years-old at the time. I haven’t seen the film since and I have the feeling it may not hold up to my lofty memories. Time, once again, to find out.

Time to drive our Daily 70s Spot out of the garage. Today we have a commercial for the 1976 Chevy Vega filmed in Death Valley, California. By 1977 the Vega would be out of production. Spot aired in November of 1975.
