Our Daily 70s Spot on tap this morning is for Colt 45 malt liquor. Watch in amazement as this foxy 70s gal sings and shoots laser beams out of her fingers. Zap!

It looks like this spot was filmed in L.A.’s Bonaventure Hotel (photo link). At least, that’s my guess. I was in the bar area there recently and the decor hasn’t changed all that much in the past four decades. Commercial aired in November of 1978.

Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” appeared on the Signed, Sealed & Delivered L.P. of August, 1970. The single, featuring Wonder’s first solo producing credit, hit #3 on the US Billboard “Hot 100” and #11 in the UK.

Here’s a 20-year-old Wonder performing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” on the Dick Cavett Show on August 11th, 1970. To my mind, Stevie Wonder was the most consistently brilliant musician of the 1970s. There are many other artists I treasure from the decade but just about every song Wonder released between 1970-1979 makes me think “hot damn, that’s a fine tune.”

Today’s Daily 70s Spot is the type of thing I really go for. A poker night gathering of 40-something fellows reminiscent of The Odd Couple. The buddies are utterly amazed at how wonderful these Pringles are.

In 1975 Pringles was forced to change the word “Chips” to “Crisps.” This commercial aired in February of 1973 and still calls the product “Chips.” Munch it up below.

Here’s a charming Daily 70s Spot for Kodak film. In the 70s, in an effort to save you a trip to the local Fotomat, Kodak offered consumers “pre-paid processing mailers for color prints.” Commercial aired in August of 1975.

Having a good Saturday? Here’s the Bay City Rollers performing “Yesterday’s Hero” to keep your day stomping along.

“Yesterday’s Hero” appeared on the Rollers’ Dedication L.P. in the fall of 1976. The performance on display below features the band in Japan in December of 1976. Pay no attention to the 1977 date on the YouTube title. We know it’s 1976 because Pat McGlynn is playing guitar and he was only in the band for a few months in that timeframe. Additionally, you can see the date come up in Japanese during the clip. Roll it!
