Airport '77 released in March of 1977

In honor of my wife’s birthday, March 22nd, let’s grab a year out of the 1970s and see what occurred on this fine day. 1977 – I choose you!

Jack Jones says: 'What a beautiful New Yorker. It's the talk of the town.'

Here’s singer Jack Jones (crooner of The Love Boat theme) for the 1977 Chrysler New Yorker.

The New Yorker was produced from 1946 to 1996. In the 70s, during oil embargoes and tough economic times, Chrysler suffered trying to sell these lovely, gas-munching street boats to the populace.

Ken Russell’s film version of Sandy Wilson’s musical, The Boy Friend, released to theaters in December of 1971.

Music for Monday: Rod Stewart, ‘Hot Legs’

Travel back in time and catch Rod Stewart in concert

Rod Stewart’s “Hot Legs” first appeared on the November, 1977 L.P. Foot Loose & Fancy Free and was released as a single in early 1978. The tune (co-written with Gary Grainger) hit #28 on the Billboard US 100 and #5 on the UK charts.

Here’s Rod “The Mod” performing the song on German TV in ’78. Just Stewart and his legs (and, I’m guessing, a pre-show tipple). Hot!

70s Spots: Tyco Nite-Glow Double-Loop Racing

Tyco Double Loop Racing Set, 1977. 'Silver streak curve-huggers!'

Time for a Sunday commercial break and “You are about to see something incredible!” Tyco’s Nite-Glow Double Loop Racing set from 1977. Look at those blurry slot cars go!

Truth is, although these race cars sets always seemed so cool to my youthful mind, whenever I actually played with them I quickly became bored. I never had a set of my own but my buddy Curtiss did and I was envious…briefly. You set up the track for an hour then watch the cars zip around the track for a minute and..then you watch them zip around again. Incredible!
