You could not possibly need any more wine than this. (Lancers commercial, 1974)
“Lancers – all the wine the world needs.”
Watch this Lancers wine commercial in awe as the spokesperson blends seamlessly from rosé to white, then to red, without so much as pausing for a sip. The spot aired in December of 1974.
$10.99 for a great, American shoe. (Kinney commercial, 1974)
“Platform soles and big high heels.”
Here’s a commercial that’s one of those nearly perfect 1970s time capsules. Men’s platform shoes from Kinney. The spot aired in March of 1974. At $10.99, you won’t be able to deny these high-steppers.
Arthur Carlson enjoying a Big Mac. (McDonald’s commercial, 1974)
“Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and a sesame seed bun.”
Here we find a December 1974 spot for McDonald’s featuring the well-known Big Mac jingle. Gordon Jump (of WKRP in Cincinnati fame) makes an appearance. Sing along. It ain’t hard to do.
22 cents of pure quality. (Carnation Instant Breakfast commercial, 1974)
“Here’s one answer to high food prices.”
Hello, Bionic friends. Let’s move on to a 1974 theme this week. Here’s one for a product I remember lurking in my family’s 1970s kitchen cabinet – Carnation Instant Breakfast.
The spot aired in March of 1974. Mix it with milk and drink it down.
Rejected tagline: Plymouth Space Duster – more room for all your crap!
“You can get more out of it, ’cause you can get more into it.”
We’re closing out 1972 week with two spots for Plymouth. First, we have a snappy red Space Duster and a few roommates moving into a new pad.
Second, a commercial featuring the Satellite Sebring Plus for ’73. The spokesperson looks (and especially sounds) familiar, but I can’t place his name. Your help is appreciated. Both spots aired in October 1972.
*Thanks go out to Bionic reader, Mike Lane for identifying Arthur Godfrey as the spokesperson in the Satellite spot.
The weekend is here. Now comes Miller time. And Schlitz time. And guys herding animals and leaping off of sail boats. Watch the two spots below from October of 1972 for a clearer picture.
