70s Commercials: Honeycomb, Western Electric, Mr. Magnet Man, Colt 45 (1970)

Were lounging around in 1970 for this installment of vintage commercials. Our star attraction is a spot for Honeycomb cereal with a free metal license plate offer. Check out that cool looking biker gang. What a bunch of terrors.

Following that, you’ll find spots for Western Electric, Romper Room’s Mr. Magnet Man toy, and a long version of a Colt 45 spot starring Billy Van. I posted a shorter, 30: second version nine years back. Gee, I’ve been doing this for a while now.

Music For Monday: Suzi Quatro, ‘The Race Is On’ (1978)

Suzi Quatro’s “The Race Is On” was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and first appeared on the 1978 LP If You Knew Suzi…. The aforementioned album is Quatro’s biggest US success as it included the chart-smasher “Stumblin’ In.”

Here’s Suzi in a September 1979 broadcast performing “The Race Is On” on European music show Rock Planet. Though aired in ’79, this appearance was recorded back in ’78. Enjoy.

It’s a 1979 kinda thing today. Tuck into commercials for Wrigley’s Big Red gum, Total Cereal, some high fashion Sears shirtdresses, and a TV trailer for Bette Midler’s The Rose.
