This time around on Partridge Pop- something a bit different. In 1971, the TV show This Is Your Life tip-toed into CBS Studios in L.A. and surprised Shirley Jones on her 37th birthday (March 31st).
The four-minute highlights clip below offers up the intro with Jones looking legitimately surprised and you’ll enjoy hearing her scream, “Jack Cassidy, I’m going to kill you!” If you keep your eyes peeled, just before and during the credits you can catch a quick look at a 12-year-old Shaun Cassidy. Roll it!

That nice, young Jerry Seinfeld boy. Maybe one day he’ll invent a show about “Nothing.” (Photgrab: Seinfeld on ‘Celebrity Cabaret, 1977)
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld‘s popularity exploded in the 1980s and 90s but the man was performing on television (and in night clubs) as early as the 1970s. Here’s two brief clips featuring Jerry making with the jokes while still in his early 20s.
First up, we have what is listed as Jerry’s first national TV gig on NYC-based Celebrity Cabaret in 1977. Next, a quick video from The Bottom Line club, also in NYC, from 1979.

Spidey loves Shaun, hates Hulk (Pizzazz Magazine, 1978)
Here’s a good one. Spider-Man as a reluctant spokesman for Marvel’s short-lived Pizzazz Magazine. Pizzazz (“with more Shaun Cassidy pics than his mother…”) was published between 1977 and 1979 and 16 issues were produced. This TV spot was grabbed from the airwaves in May of 1978.

Not the real thing, but an incredible simulation (‘Jackson 5ive’ cartoon, 1971)
Rankin/Bass’ Jackson 5ive cartoon series originally ran on ABC from September, 1971 to September of 1973. 23, half-hour episodes of groovy, limited-animation were produced.
Michael Jackson as voiced by Donald Fullilove (‘Jackson 5ive’ cartoon, 1971)
The animated version of The Jackson 5 featured actors voicing the band along with VO veteran, Paul Frees playing a variety of characters. Each episode featured a Jackson 5 tune, such as “ABC” or “I Want You Back,” and often featured a montage of the band playing along and/or getting involved in various hijinks with that episodes’ cast of incidental characters. Mowtown’s Berry Gordy (voiced by Frees) usually appeared to add some adult supervision and little Michael’s pet snake and his two rats provided some additional comedic relief.
Classic Media have just released the complete cartoon series on DVD and Blu-ray and are keeping a tight hold on what’s available on YouTube – but here’s a clip featuring “I Want You Back” to give you a taste.
