A very good Monday to you. The start of a new week means it’s time for some seventies music. Bouncing off last week’s Beatles theme, we have The Muppets with Ringo Starr’s “Octopus’s Garden.” This performance graced The Ed Sullivan Show on March 1, 1970. Dive in.
THE MUPPETS, ‘OCTOPUS’S GARDEN’ (‘THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW,’ 1970)
All 1970! All edible! Hey kids, why not join in the seventies commercials Friday fun?!
First up, we’ve got Casper the Friendly Ghost for Sugar Chex cereal. Remember when cereals had the word “sugar” in the name? Following that, it’s a classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup spot with two great tastes colliding. Lastly, we have Lou Brock for Milk Duds, and Ron Carey for Tang. Have a scrumptious weekend.

“4-wheel driving becomes a new experience in the ’74 Jeep Wagoneer.”
American Motor Company’s got a real looker there. And that trailer is pretty nice too. Daily 70s Ad #341: AMC’s Jeep Wagoneer originally appeared in the December, 1973 issue of Popular Science magazine.
Yes, that’s an 18-year-old Doug Fieger of The Knack, front and center with his early band Sky. The young Detroit band released two albums on RCA records and were discovered and produced by Jimmy Miller.
The above ad introducing the group and the Don’t Hold Back LP appeared in the December 5, 1970 issue of Billboard magazine. Let’s have a listen to that album’s single “Goodie Two Shoes.”
It’s 1971 today and I’ve got a fresh batch of 50-year-old commercials for you. First, it’s a nice quality, somewhat funny spot for Lifebuoy Soap. Following that, you can enjoy ads for Scope mouthwash, Wish-Bone Italian Rosé salad dressing (with Rocky Graziano), and General Motors showing off their experimental catalytic converter.
Here’s Fanny performing their version of The Beatles “Hey Bulldog” on Germany TV show Beat-Club. I’m a Beatles fanatic and many cover versions either bore me or bug me – but I can get with this. And pretty much everything Fanny released. I highly recommend diving into their seventies catalog if you’ve yet to uncover the group’s greatness. Hit play today!
