70s Spots: Kodak Film & Timex Watches (1970)

Kinda hard to see with your finger over the viewfinder.

“You can hold all those moments in your hand.”

Swinging back in time all the way to 1970 for two commercials from once-giant companies. First up, a Kodak film spot featuring changing seasons from June ’70.

After that, a Timex spot from November ’70 featuring commentator John Cameron Swayze and a Florida swamp buggy durability test.

Are you ready for some…polyester?!

“In today’s Dacron Polyester.”

Here’s two fashionable commercials for Palm Beach clothing starring sportscaster Frank Gifford. Both of these Gifford spots aired in March of 1978. I especially like the shot of the stylish sportsman zipping across town on a moped. Look for it.

Someone’s sampled a bit too much frosting

“That’s what makes it rich!”

Time for a tea party with plenty of snacks. First, we have a commercial featuring a very happy cake maker singing the virtues of Pillsbury’s Rich ‘n Easy frosting mix.

After that, a mother and daughter share some Ruffles potato chips. Both spots aired in January of 1974 and were likely produced in ’73.

The Pearl of San Antonio

“Straight from the heart of Texas.”

Here we have two late Seventies commercials for lesser-known, local beers. First up, an April 1977 spot for Pearl Beer from Texas. After that, a November ’77 spot for Falls City Beer out of Kentucky.

‘Four hours!’

“Only VHS can give you 4 hours.”

Today we have two commercials from October of 1978 for VHS home recording devices. At this time VHS was still locked in a battle for consumer attention with the Betamax format. I wonder if these spots were recorded off the TV and onto VHS or Beta tape? Roll ’em!

Sigourney spotted?

“Taste the Pepsi Way!”

Here’s a pair of “Have a Pepsi Day!”-themed commercials that aired in mid-November of 1977. The first spot, featuring a Bicycle Marathon in what appears to be Central Park, may contain an early appearance by Sigourney Weaver. I think so, as do a few YouTube viewers – but I’m not 100% convinced. What do yo think?
