Funshine Friday: ‘New Zoo Revue’ (Intro, 1972)

“Comin’ right at you!” (‘New Zoo Revue,’ 1972)

New Zoo Revue originally ran in syndication from 1972 to 1977. This children’s show featured a married couple, Doug Momary and Emily Peden (Emmy Jo), and costumed animals; Freddie the Frog, Henrietta Hippo and Charlie the Owl. The aim was to teach kids important life lessons on subjects such as sharing or patience.

I watched New Zoo Revue on numerous occasions, but even as a child found the costumed characters of Freddie and Henrietta somewhat annoying. Here’s the intro and it’s sure to bring back mixed emotions and memories.

Interesting note: Bob Holt, the voice of Charlie the Owl, also provided the voice for Avatar in Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards.
