SIXTIES Week: Wow! Something new going down here at the ‘Disco. Well, actually something even older than usual, I guess. We’re focused on 1960s TV advertising this week.

In the first installment of what will be come a semi-regular feature; we get ’60s things rolling with groovy spots for Libby’s Sloppy Joes, ’68 Chevys (with Frankie Randall & Jennie Smith), General Mills Pizza Spins, and Raid (with voice overs by Paul Frees, Mel Blanc, and Dick Tufeld).

LIBBY’S SLOPPY JOES COMMERCIAL (1966)

Libby’s canned Sloppy Joes commercial featuring dancing teens. Spot aired in 1966.

’68 CHEVY ‘EXPLO!’ COMMERCIAL (1967)

Chevrolet ’68 ‘V8s’ commercial featuring singers Frankie Randall & Jennie Smith. Spot aired in 1967.

PIZZA SPINS COMMERCIAL (1968)

General Mills Pizza Spins commercial featuring a sci fi theme. Spot aired August 1968.

RAID ANIMATED COMMERCIAL (1969)

Johnson Wax animated Raid Flying Insect Killer commercial featuring a Bela Lugosi-esque insect (Paul Frees) and insect trainee (Mel Blanc). Narration by Dick Tufeld. Spot aired in 1969.

  1. These were all good, loved the Chevy one! I remember those Libbys canned meats very well, the pork was great too. Wouldn’t want to dance while eating a sloppy Joe though!
