70s Spots: Kentucky Fried Chicken ‘Colonel Talks’ (1971)

Not Rob Lowe

“We’ve got another whole generation of chicken-eaters coming up…”

Continuing our chicken theme, we have two commercials for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Both spots aired on New Year’s Day 1971 (and were therefore produced in 1970).

The first spot has the Colonel chatting about children and leading them on an expedition. The second spot features a special date night with a daughter’s new boyfriend.

‘The world’s greatest chicken fixa!’

“Cooks as light as it looks.”

Early Seventies Commercials now for Wesson and Van Camp’s. First up, a spot from 1972 featuring a singing mother for Wesson pure vegetable cooking oil. A few year’s later, Florence Henderson (The Brady Bunch) would become spokesperson for Wesson – taking up the mantel of blonde-haired, singing mom.

The second spot is for Van Camp’s Pork and Beans and aired in early February of 1974 (probably produced in ’73). Have a splendid Friday!

Hanging out in the Sears candy department circa ’77

“I like the candy!”

Two Sears commercials can be found below. First up, some customer testimonials including a child’s enthusiasm for the candy department. The spot aired in November of 1977. Second, a spot from June ’77 featuring an “Appliance Spectacular.”

We visited our local Sears store fairly often when I was a kid in the Seventies. I don’t remember a candy section (which seems remarkable, so maybe it didn’t exist), but I always made a beeline for the toy department while my mom shopped.

A double-dose of 1970 Charmin bathroom tissue commercials today. Good ol’ Mr. Whipple (Dick Wilson) simply can’t resist squeezing the product. That scoundrel!
