Maybe Cheech & Chong’s “Sister Mary Elephant” isn’t really music, but this slice of sketch comedy was released as a single, featured in the music press, and hit #24 on the Hot 100. The ad above appeared in the November 2, 1973 edition of Radio & Records magazine.
This would be a re-release of “Sister Mary Elephant,” which debuted in ’72, to capitalize on the success of Cheech & Chong’s “Basketball Jones.” Lend an ear and chuckle.

Below you can catch a performance of the song on Soul Train. This being 1974, the original Impressions, Sam Gooden and Fred Cash, are joined by new members Reggie Torian and Ralph Johnson. Get it together and get it on.
