Grand Theft Auto, 1977. ‘It’s a comedy…with car crashes.’
Ah, it’s Tuesday Thursday and that means we have another fine movie trailer on display for you. Drive into the clicker below and enjoy a two minute look at Ron Howard’s directorial debut Grand Theft Auto.
GTA released in of June of 1977 and was commercially successful (to the auto-tune of 15 million big ones.) Reviews, however, weren’t overwhelmingly positive. I sure enjoyed it at the age of 10. A great many cars lost their lives in this 70s chase pic. That was entertainment enough.
James Brown Polydor ad appeared in the July 7, 1976 issue of Record World magazine.
Here we have a friendly promotion celebrating the 10-year anniversary of James Brown on the Polydor Records label. At the time of this ad, in the summer of 1976, Brown’s hot disc was “Get Up Offa That Thing” (#4 R&B, #45 Hot 100) from the LP of the same name. Spin it below.
Happy Tuesday! And, why is it never “Happy Tuesday”? Today, I’ve got a batch of early seventies commercials on tap. First, a fun, animated spot for King Vitaman cereal featuring the voice of Joe Flynn. Following that, there’s Romper Room’s Puzzle and Play Animals toy, Kraft Parkay Margarine, and Brunswick Billiard Tables.
KING VITAMAN CEREAL ANIMATED COMMERCIAL (1970)
Quaker animated King Vitaman cereal commercial featuring the King Vitaman mascot (voiced by Joe Flynn) and the Blue Baron. Spot aired in 1970. Apologies, there is some audio distortion on the source video.
‘PUZZLE AND PLAY ANIMALS’ TOY COMMERCIAL (ROMPER ROOM, 1970)
Hasbro Romper Room Puzzle and Play Animals toy commercial. Spot aired in 1970 (year based on product research).
KRAFT PARKAY MARGARINE COMMERCIAL (1971)
Kraft Country Fresh Flavor Soft Parkay Margarine commercial featuring Philadelphia brand Cream Cheese and Miracle Whip. Narration by Ed Herlihy. Spot aired November 1971.
BRUNSWICK BILLIARD TABLES COMMERCIAL (1971)
Brunswick billiard tables commercial featuring an eager family. Spot aired November 1971.
A very good Monday to you. It’s the top of the week and time for some seventies music. Let’s watch and listen to the Bee Gees in a promo film for “Lonely Days.”
“Lonely Days” appeared on the 2 Years On LP and was released as a single in the fall of 1970. The tune hit #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (#1 on Cash Box & Record World) and #33 in the UK.
The video is something to behold as it depicts the band feeling forlorn amongst their fancy homes, gold records, and Rolls-Royces. Enjoy.
1979 is the sweet spot today. You’ll find commercials for 7-11’s Sausage & Biscuit Sandwich, Grandma’s Fruit’n Oatmeal Bars, the CBS Friday evening line-up of The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Dallas, and finally, a TV trailer for The Amityville Horror. ‘Tis the season.
7-11 ‘BREAKFAST’ COMMERCIAL (1979)
7-11 breakfast commercial featuring the Sausage & Biscuit Sandwich and coffee. Spot aired December 1979.
