70s Spots: Stove Top Stuffing (1973) & Rice-A-Roni (1978)

(Pretty sure this is not the recommended cooking method)

“The Anytime Stuffing That Hardly Takes Any Time.”

We’re gobbling up some delicious side dishes this afternoon. First, we have a September 1973 commercial for General Foods Stove Top Stuffing Mix.

After that, a 1978 spot for Rice-a-Roni – The San Francisco treat!

‘Come play in my tropical wonderland…’

“Come walk across my volcanoes.”

Happy Monday, fellow nostalgia trip’ers. Traveling is our theme today and to start off we have a commercial for United Airline’s service to Hawaii from December of 1978. Mentally, I must still be a teenager as the dialog in this one makes me chuckle.

After our Hawaiian vacation we take an East Coast Trailways Bus trip in June of ’78.

‘This is Data Race. The world’s only computerized road racing system.’

“The closest thing to real racing!”

Let’s sprawl out in the living room and play with some toys. First out of the box, a commercial for Aurora’s AFX Data Race model cars set. This one features a nifty computerized track and aired in November of 1979.

Second, going back a few years earlier to ’77, we have a spot for the little ‘uns. This one has a toddler pining to attend classes with Tomy’s Merry-Go-School Bus.

Bringing back the memories with the old Taco Bell uniforms and menu

“Head for taca-taca-taca-Taco Bell!”

We’re laying out some tasty fast food selections today. A March 1978 commercial for Taco Bell followed by a McDonald’s breakfast spot from October 1979. Yummy!?

*Interesting note: I’m fairly surprised that this is the first time since our launch seven years ago that I’m posting something Taco Bell-related. The company’s Seventies commercials are somewhat rare.

“Building a better way to see the U.S.A.”

In our commercial showroom today we have two auto spots from December of 1971. First up, a ’72 Chevy Chevelle tours Pennsylvania with narration by Casey Kasem.

Second, a spot for the ’72 Continental Mark IV and Lincoln Continental. Get behind the wheel for two minutes of historical fun.

“America’s #1 soft drink.”

We’re going with a soda pop theme today. First, we have a Coca-Cola commercial from September 1973 featuring a fancy self-drinking bottle.

Second, a spot for Pepsi from February 1974 featuring a charity car wash group. Wash ’em down.
