Well, hello. Happy September! It’s high time we had an update here at the ‘Disco. Let’s get into some circa ’73-’74, starting off with a Comet Cleanser commercial featuring longtime mascot Josephine the Plumber (Jane Withers) and actor Hattie Winston from The Electric Company.

Following that beauty, we have spots for a weird, wonderful, and highly unauthorized Beatles bootleg Alpha Omega, Home Pride Buttertop Bread, and Duncan Hines Brownie Mix. Enjoy ’em.

Oh, I almost forgot – as a bonus, we also have another of those pre-Bicentennial spots. This one stars Bella Abzug.

Howdy, ‘Disco denizens! It’s circa’ 72 today, and I’ve got the usual quartet of vintage ads for you, plus a pre-Bicentennial extra-special video that aired 50 years ago on this very day.

First up, a spot for French’s Mustard with Onion Bits (starring Phil Leeds). Following that, feast your eyes on commercials for Cap’n Crunch Peanut Butter Cereal, Arrid Extra Dry Antiperspirant, and Bonus Detergent (with Ron McLarty).

Lastly, a special August 17th video from CBS & Shell that takes a look at this day 250 years ago during the American Revolution. Sheesh. I was 8 years old when this segment aired in 1975. Where has the time gone?

Greetings, all. Apologies for getting behind on the posting. Here’s a nifty lot of vintage commercials from the early Seventies – circa 1970 to ’71.

First up, it’s Thomas’ English Muffins with a familiar looking package and unfamiliar topping suggestions. Following that, we’ve got Right Guard, Spic and Span (with Ron Carey), and another King Vitaman Cereal spot (with voices by Joe Flynn & Daws Butler). I hope you find the memories more than satisfactory.

Following that, you’ll find ads for Secret antiperspirant, Alpo Dog Food (with Lorne Greene), and Kraft’s Soft Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The last year of the Seventies sure was filled with advertising wonders, eh?

Alright! We’re back to the Seventies now with a batch of memory-pleasing commercials from 1978. Firstly, a spot for Undie-Leggs with a chorus line in the supermarket. If I remember rightly, this sort of thing happened all the time.

Following the historical legwear commercial, there’s spots for Burger King and their not-creepy-at-all “Magic” mascot, Pillsbury’s Poppin’ Fresh Chocolate Chip Cookies (with Bill Fiore), and Aqua Velva (with Pete Rose and Betty Buckley).

Sixties Week is back! This hearty double-post features an old timey commercial for Sandy’s Big Scot Burger. Apparently, McDonald’s “borrowed” the Big Scot idea for their wickedly successful Big Mac.

After that bit of fast food history, take in spots for Quisp Cereal (with VO provided by Daws Butler, William Conrad, and Paul Frees), Thermo King Auto Air Conditioners, Pepto-Bismol, Adolph’s Tenderizer, Playtex Bras (with a young Bernadette Peters), Head & Shoulders, and Dial Soap. Dig it!

SANDY’S BIG SCOT BURGERS COMMERCIAL (1966)

Sandy’s Big Scot hamburgers commercial featuring a giant mascot and a country style jingle. Sandy’s was a McDonald’s competitor that was bought out by Hardee’s in 1973. Spot aired in 1966.
